"My name is Combatvali, I specialize in combat. I only exist in the ALPHA versions of the game to both guide players and to test out the quest framework. If you need any combat lessons, let me know." -Combatvali

Combatvali is the second NPC that was added to the game. They were mainly added to test out the quest system.

Combatvali will give you tips on attacking and defending, and will also give you quests. Combatvali will parry every attack, however they do have block stamina, meaning that if you hit them enough times they will stop parrying.

Quotes
Opening interaction:
  • "Hello." (If haven't accepted any quests)
  • "Welcome back, do you need any lessons or any help on combat?

"Can I learn attacking?" chosen (Gives "Deal Damage" quest):

  • Offense is something Avali are great at, we hit fast and hard. Due to our size, we don't tank attacks very well in return for being agile. Use your mobility to outmaneuver your opponents, dodge and weave through enemies to get around their guard. For this lesson, I would like you to deal a total of 500 damage, either ranged or melee. Oh also, I would prefer if you do damage to things that fight back, your goal here is to learn.

(After accepting "Deal Damage") "Can you help me on attacking?" chosen:

  • There's many ways you can do damage to things, but first, you need a weapon. To equip and use weapons, open your inventory using [TAB] and equipping a weapon onto a loadout slot. Melee weapons are simple to use, get up close and personal with something and attack. Each attack usually stuns enemies in place for a while, allowing for consecutive hits. However, be careful not to get parried by an enemy with a melee weapon. For ranged weapons, you need to aim first before attacking. Bows are drawn back, dealing more damage if you "overdraw" it but are tricky to aim. Firearms are almost point and shoot but make sure to account for recoil. However, for both, you need to account for the speed of projectiles when using bows and firearms. Some entities also have "weak spots' which are areas when hit deal more damage. This only applies to projectile weapons such as bows and firearms. There's a bunch of other stuff regarding weapons, it'd be too much to say here. Experiment with using melee, ranged, or both at the same time. Whichever suits your combat style.

"Can I learn blocking?" chosen (Gives "Blocking Lessons" quest):

  • Us Avali aren't meant to sustain impacts, our bone structure and small stature supports our mobility. However, sometimes you have no choice but to get hit, blocking attacks is the main way to avoid doing so. If you take too many hits, your guard stamina will deplete, stunning you in place. To avoid this, try to parry any careless attackers to break out of their combos.

(After accepting "Blocking Lessons") "Can you help me on blocking?" chosen:

  • Blocking is only available on melee weapons. To block, press and hold [F] while looking at the direction of the attack. Parry is similar but you have to block right before an attack hits. It's also always better to block an attack rather than getting hit, try to block early when parrying to prevent attacks from slipping through.

"Who are you?" chosen:

  • My name is Combatvali, I specialize in combat. I only exist in the ALPHA versions of the game to both guide players and to test out the quest framework. If you need any combat lessons, let me know.
